I don't think there'll be any crossovers in the first season. And Capt'n Jack is supposed to go back into Doctor Who in season 3 so that will be when.

ok! I just found this out, I'm sure you all knew this, very interesting: "Torchwood" is an anagram of "Doctor Who". When the first series of "Doctor Who" (2005) was being made, television pirates were desperate to acquire the preview tapes. One of the people in the office had the idea of labeling the tapes with the anagram "Torchwood" rather than "Doctor Who", as a security measure to disguise the tapes when they were delivered from Cardiff to London. Writer Russell T. Davies liked this idea so much that it later inspired him to use it as a title when creating this spin-off series. interesting

yeah that IS cool Captain Jack has got a sidekick and people have a new ship Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood finds leading lady in Myles by Sam Matthews Brand Republic 24 Feb 2006 Barrowman (l) and Myles: starring in 'Torchwood' LONDON – The Russell T Davies-penned 'Torchwood', a BBC Three spin-off from 'Doctor Who', has found its leading lady in the form of Welsh actress Eve Myles as it gets ready for an autumn showing. Myles first featured in an episode of 'Doctor Who' last year as Gwen, the character she reprises for 'Torchwood'. Previous roles include 'Soundproof' for BBC Two and 'Belonging' for BBC Wales. Davies, who previously wrote 'Queer as Folk' and the hugely successful resurrection of 'Doctor Who', said: "I've admired Eve's work for years, and when she was able to guest star in 'Doctor Who' last year, it just confirmed to me that she was one of Wales's best-kept secrets. "The part of Gwen in 'Torchwood' was written specially for her, so it's a good thing she said yes, Eve and John Barrowman have already met up, and the combination is going to be electrifying." Myles will will star alongside former 'Live and Kicking' presenter Barrowman, who returns in the role of Captain Jack. The 13-part drama series is aimed at a post-watershed, adult audience and has been described as a mix between 'X Files' and the mid-1990s drama series 'This Life'. 'Torchwood', an anagram of 'Doctor Who', is due to start filming this summer and will debut on BBC Three this autumn. It will air at a later date on BBC One. The series is being produced by BBC Wales in Cardiff, as was the last 'Doctor Who', but the storylines from the shows will not cross over. The second series of 'Doctor Who' is due to air later this year, with 'Casanova' star David Tennant as the Doctor and Billie Piper as his assistant Rose. www.brandrepublic.com/bulletins/media/article/543091/doctor-spinoff-torchwood-finds-leading-lady-myles/barrowman (from now on I will refer to him as barrow man, na na na na na na na barrow man!) presented live and kicking? when was this? it was probably before my live and kicking watching years.... I grew up with Jamie Theakston and Zoe Ball

Me too, I don't remember him.
I also don't remember this Gwen character...still, I'm looking forward to it! Captain Jack looks pretty in that picture.

Burn Gorman, most recently seen as the bumbling yet calculating Guppy in Bleak House, will play Owen Harper, Torchwood’s raw but charming doctor (no, not in that sense - he’s just a medic).
"Burn was just dazzling in last year's Bleak House, and attracted our attention immediately,” raves Davies. "We beat a path to his door. He's one of the UK's brightest new talents, and I can't believe how lucky we are to get him for Torchwood."
Also joining the team is Naoko Mori, who is no stranger to the Who production crew, having worked on the very first day of shooting series one. You might remember her as scientist Toshiko Sato, introduced in Aliens of London. “"She was absolutely brilliant, and I knew then that I wanted to bring her back,” says Russell in typically understated fashion.
Sato will act as Torchwood’s tecchie type, in charge of computers, surveillance and – given the show’s brief – hopefully lots of gadgets.
Torchwood revolves around a specially created group of investigators who respond to alien threats and misuses of extra-terrestrial technology by humans. The Cardiff-based department will be commanded by Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and Gwen Cooper (played by The Unquiet Dead’s Eve Myles). Fans will have spotted the ever-so subtle reference to the creation of the original Torchwood institute in this week’s Who episode Tooth And Claw.
Filming kicks off in Wales next month, and the series should hit our screens in the autumn.

I remember the scientist I hope it won't ruin things! I hate it when characters play two different characters in the same show or spin off. I was watching Cheers the other day and the guy who played fraisers dad "John Mahoney" was in the episode! but he wasn't playing his dad, he was playing a guy who wrote jingles and he and fraiser had one scene where they had a couple of lines together and all I was thinking was "He looks exactly like your father! look at him! just mention it! argh!" oh my I just went on imdb and John Mahoney was born in Britain! in blackpool! but he lost it when he joined the us army (traitor!!!!) ok that was random when will Torchwood start?

I saw the cheers /Frasier crossover i knew about Mahoney's englishness though there was a trivia question asking which member of the cast was from manchester and they want you to say Daphne so they can say '' no !!!!! '' apparently he still pronounces wednesday like a northerner but the rest of his accents gone .
