I didn't know it had even started last week till a friend told me, and then I forgot again.
I read somewhere that the thing Joss wanted to explore more in Firefly was Inara's secret and that it had something to do with that box. The one in the ep where they fly past a Reaver ship and she pulls a box out with a needle in it. Everyone assumes it's a suicide kit but it's not.
I think she's a REAVER!

I think she's got a terrible disease that she got from a straying boyfriend who caught it from a companion , and is exacting revenge by happily infecting men who visit prostitutes , She refuses to infect Mal though thinking he's a decent lad .

Maybe she's the Spike of the reaver world , and she'd manage to reign in her urge to rape all the crew to death , killed all the Reavers then sacrificed herself .
