I saw this today with my friend and thought it was pretty good. I did find myself constantly telling Tom Welling to use his super powers to save the day though. (I even called him Clark once 
)
I've never seen the original version of the movie so I can't compare it to that (though the original is on TV right now) but I will say it was a very good movie. There were parts that had a lot of the people that were there jumping and screaming. That's always fun.
The storyline was good, but I was confused for a bit. I was happy when I figured things out. I wondered why, though, when the lepers/zombies/ghost were there to avenge what had happened in the past with the 4 founding fathers of the island, they just stopped everything and then disappeared when Elizabeth, who was obviously either related to the lead zombie's girlfriend, or actually WAS her showed up there and the zombie guy kissed her. She turned into a ghost/zombie thing like them and they all left. What happened to vegeance??
Also, WHY choose a zombie guy OVER TOM WELLING??? hahaha. I found myself wondering that while she was kissing the zombie guy and ended up with him.
My pal and I were quite rude to the characters. We were always laughing and finding something stupid about something. There was one point where she said "Leper zombies" and I thought she said "Lepers on ice" so now there's this whole big thing... It was amusing at the time.
I also had a scare myself while watching it. I was looking at the screen when I noticed something in front of my eye. I focused on it and thought it was gnat or something but then noticed it was a spider hanging CLEAR from the VERY high up ceiling! I quickly hit it and then freaked out a little :-P
And THAT was my movie experience!
