I don't really see much point with marriage. There are other ways to commit to someone, and a piece of paper and a couple of rings just seems very insubstantial. My parents have been together 29 years and they never married...at least not each other Having said that, I firmly believe gay marriage should be legalised. It's only fair that they should get the same treatment as hetero's. My...this has turned into a politics thread.

I never watched that show. I tried to watch The L Word a couple of times, though, but never really understood what was going on. Apart from sex. Also I was watching with my mum so...

when I had living tv for a month, I watched the L word once I liked it, good show.
Marriage? not sure... I wanted to get married when I was younger, But not now, if I meet someone I might change my mind.

The L Word rocks! It's my new favourite show. Perhaps I'll have a mass marriage like the Moonies. When my Sociology teacher discovered I wasn't really for the institution of marriage he kept making little jokes at me like "Oh you wouldn't like the Moonies, Carly, they're polygamous and a large group of women marry one man" . Just because I don't want to get married doesn't mean I want to stop everyone else doing it! It'd be more likely the name "Moonies" would put me off.

ohh your old Sociology teacher was a meany, your right, just because you don't want to get married doesn't mean you don't want anyone else too!, I hope you stood up for yourself!

Right for all you non believers I have been married 20 years. Now I am not at all suggesting it has been easy but I was lucky enough to meet my one and only at the tender age of 17. It's not easy as you get older sometimes you are less tolerant but like anything it takes work and is well worth it. I totally respect individual rights to live your life but don't knock it just take your time and be sure. Lecture is officially over.

Just as a side note I am very open minded one of my friends at work is in a lesbian relationship and makes no secret of it. My opinion is whatever makes you happy, life is too short.

marriage works for some people, of course it does. Just not for me ...great, now I've said that I'll probably get married and you'll all razz me about it.
