So, there's this new book coming out hopefully in August that's Spike-centric called "Spark and Burn". I think it might be set in season 7 of BTVS but I don't know. I'm sure Spuffy knows the details. I really want this book. Mostly just because I'm dying from lack of Spike. Stupid lack of Spike... You know you all want this book too.

I just got this book in my trusty Waterstones, as far as I can tell from flipping through it it's about Spike's obsession with Slayers.
This is what it says on the blurb -
What Is The True Measure Of A Champion?
In the nineteenth century a boy named William was born. A sweet, gentle boy - no one could have guessed the suffering he'd cause, the pain he'd inflict. When, as a young man, he meets a woman called Drusilla - a strange woman, a woman unlike anyone William has ever known - he is fundamentally changed. She has turned him. There will be no more William. He is Spike now.
As Spike, he travels Europe with a band of vagabond vampires. Dru, Darla, and Angelus instruct him on his new nature, and it is from them that he learns about that greatest of vampiric enemies, the girl who is chosen to stand up against them, trained to kill them, endowed with the strength it takes to defeat them: the Slayer. Then and there, Spike decides he'll hunt down those slayers. He'll see how many he can find.
Who would have thought, then, that he'd fight on the Slayer's side? Who would have guessed that Spike, once William, would go out and seek his soul for a slayer? Who would have dared to dream he'd fall in love with one? ~~~~~
That was all lovingly typed out, so appreciate it, skanks!
Vagabond vampires? harsh.
It seems to be a series of flashbacks as they're fond of doing nowadays.
We shall see how it holds up to my scathing criticism.

The lurid description of Dru turning William in these our actors is sensational , hopefully this one copies it word for word

So far it seems to just be scenes that were in the show, written up and added on slightly. Bah.

I read the book.
Sadly, it did not live up to my extremely high expectations.
Back to the drawing board.

You read that remarkably quickly You'll have to keep writing your own Spike stories for a while , It might lack the mystery of reading someone elses work, but stilll must be some fun when realistically Spikeish Lines and scenarios crop up in your head .

I think the thing I found stange and yet funny about this book was that a lot of it was set in Season 2 and Spike had been inserted into the timeline in scenes he was never in before.
For instance, when Xander was in the Bronze getting the life kissed out of him by Ampata in "Inca Mummy Girl" Spike was hiding behind a speaker! Picturing that made me laugh.
Oh, and he saw Buffy and Angel's fight in "Reptile Boy" and also saw Xander being made to dance around in a bra and wig.
I mean - what?!

Theyre not good quality writers if they need to rely on the " oh yeah remember that ep ! " factor , thats pathetic . His leaving town and remergences are just too perfect to tamper with .

Yep, everything in the book was based on the episodes.
Also, I didn't think the way he thought was the same way Spike would about some things. Like when he saw Xander in a wig and bra he didn't think it was funny. I mean, this is Spike we're talking about! Instead he sort of sympathised with him! NO!
