I was going to post that article the other day, But I saw it on cold dead seed (where someone transcribed it) and I'm not a member of the site so I coulden't ask the person for permission to post it.
But Yeah Good on James!, I woulden't want to play second fiddle either, Hes always the sidekick, Spike's one of the shows most popular characters (most poplular after buffy I think) he should get the lead!

I dont like hearing about Whedon having two films on the go at the moment though after serenity , it makes the Spike film seeem further from our grasp hopefully Tim Minear or someone will do it if Joss cant

Yeah, I want Joss to do well and all but I want my Spike!
Tim Minear has never really written for Spike though so I'm a tad worried he might balls up the character.

You know what? I don't think Joss planned on Making a Spike movie and he was just saying "yeah yeah, Spike movie yeah we'll do it blah blah etc" to make the BTVS/ATS fans happy, But in every interview he does now people always ask him about the Spike movie lol, So I think He'll have to do it now, since the media and the fans are expecting a Spike movie now, But he'll have to get someone else to write and direct it though, so Now I get why he asked Tim Minear, since Joss is going to be busy with wonder woman and goners (or whatever its called)

I don't think Joss will "have" to do it, because he simply won't let himself be backed into a corner like that. Given that JM has set a 5 year deadline that's almost half up, Joss can just say he was too busy working on other things and never got the time to get it done.
I don't see it happening.

Hey hey! In the new SFX JM says he wouldn't mind Illyria being in it, so long as the story is about Spike and told through his perspective.
There's also a bit where Joss is saying he's still interested but can't officially announce it's happening. Bugger.

I also just found all this stuff -
You spoke to Tim Minear about writing and directing the Spike movie. Where do things stand? Things stand that all of the art guys — the people who would be involved artistically — have been trading phone calls going, "Wouldn't this be cool? Wouldn't this be cool?" We don't have a paradigm set up yet. We don't have anything solid to announce. I'm just making sure that the creative people I need are in place before I set up a whole deal and then James Marsters goes, "Gosh, you know? That's kind of behind me now." Or [if] I don't have a writer I can trust, because I don't have time to do it all myself; I need one of my peeps. And there's no greater peep for something like this than Mr. [Tim] Minear. I'm optimistic that I will actually have something to say in the near future, but at this point it's still me and my buddies going, "Wouldn't it be cool?"
Have you spoken to David Janollari at WB yet? I'm not going to go into the deal-making stuff at all.
Can you tell us if you've spoken to anyone aside from James about appearing in the movie? Yes, I have.
Amy Acker? Yes, I have. Well, you know, I see Amy a lot, I see Allyson [Hannigan] a lot and Alexis [Denisof]. I've spoken to a couple of people just because we're making conversation, and they don't hate the idea. The worst thing that could happen is that somebody would be too busy because, as we know, all of my alumni are taking over the world.
Do you see Allyson/Willow being a part of it? You know, if I get a chance to use Allyson, I'll use Allyson. That's a given. There's no maybe about that. The maybe is, does she have time? And if she does have time, shouldn't she be busy doing Veronica Mars, where we need to know more about her character?

Thats pretty intriguing, i particularly like that he says he'd be ok for one of the other top writers to do it , i'd worry that if it was left to Joss it would end up as a Ripper situation
