SPIKE THE VAMPYRE, RIPPER, ILLYRIA BURKLE, FAITH, OZ IN IOWA & SLAYER GUILD May Now Be Straight-To-DVD Movies??
I am – Hercules!!
Let us give thanks!
One now gets the feeling the WB - which had to cancel “Angel” to make room for great shows like “Blue Collar TV,” “Jack & Bobby,” “The Mountain,” “Supernatural,” “Just Legal,” and “Twins” - isn’t going to give us that “Spike” TV-movie after all.
One now also gets the feeling we’re going to get something a whole lot better. A Buffiverse in which Willow Rosenberg might be permitted to call the big bad “a cunt” occasionally.
In the new issue of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Magazine , Anthony Stewart Head reveals that the proposed BBC series centering on Buffy’s former mentor, Rupert Giles, is now being thought of as “a two-hour movie that might be part of a series of DVDs that we were talking about doing for the different characters from the shows.”
This info dovetails nicely into some comments former “Buffy” writer-producer Marti Noxon made to scifiwire.com several days ago:
"There are serious discussions going on about bringing some of the characters back and making a few movies that will go straight to DVD, but they will certainly be the quality they have always been."
No word on who would release such DVDs, but Twentieth Century Fox Televison controls the rights to all the Buffiverse characters, and Fox Home Entertainment has in recent years reaped vast profits from sales of DVDs compiling Joss Whedon’s “Buffy,” “Angel” and “Firefly” series.
