Long ago in an English winter there was this man. And he gave up his life to save all of us.

When the Doctor decided to become a human, I didn't really think about what that would actually mean. I suppose I thought it'd be like Wife Swap or something. I mean, I'm trying to imagine swapping my life with Leo. I love being Aunty Marth but the idea of giving up what I have, to be all settled down with a kid... yikes! He's lived for hundreds of years. I mean, that's big. That must change the way you look at anything. I've been thinking back to what he said to Lazarus – about how it's not how long you live but what you do with your life that matters. And I'm sure he meant it but it's not true, is it? The last couple of months I've spent with him have been the biggest thing in my life. But for him it must be the equivalent of like a conversation I once had with some stranger on the Tube. He's probably always going to be the most important person I'll ever meet but I must just be a small distraction to him.

The thing is, when he was a human, I told him something. I'm not ready to write it down here although I reckon you can probably guess what it was. The problem was that he fell in love. With someone else. She was called Joan and she was nice and everything and she loved him back. She'll never forget him but he'll forget her. The human John Smith gave up everything so that he could save the day and I think he did it more for her than for me or anyone else. He loved her in a way the Doctor can never do. He'll move on and she and everyone else we met will be forgotten. People like Jenny. Jenny was great. We were mates and then the Family came and took her because they were looking for the Doctor. And Tim. Such a little sweetheart. Going to be a real heartbreaker when he grows up. If he grows up, that is. Because that's the thing, isn't it? We've left Joan and Tim and everyone else back in 1913 and for them, the world is going to change and they're all going to be at war and some of them will die. And they'll be forgotten. In the same way that Joan was a tiny part of the Doctor's life, so they're all just a tiny part in history.

But I won't forget them and I know Joan will never forget John Smith.

And I just hope the Doctor will never forget me.

I was just about to send this off when the Doctor said he wanted to show me something. We left the TARDIS and we were back in my time. For a minute I was worried he was bringing me home again but then he told me to look where we were. We were in the same village but, like I say, so many years later. And there was some kind of service going on next to a war memorial. We watched from a distance and then the Doctor whispered in my ear that the old bloke in the wheelchair was Tim. He'd survived both wars and God knows what else! And there he was. In front of me. So much older but alive. And I realised that the memorial, like the one back on in the Eye of Orion, meant that we didn't forget the people we left behind.

And I was wrong. What I said earlier about the Doctor. That was wrong. Simply by bringing me here, he was showing me that he didn't forget.

I did make a connection when he brought her to the memorial in the end I thought "oh yeah he took her to the time lord shrine on the eye of orion too according to her probably canon blog " he likes taking her to memorials for some reason

Theres some good self doubt about just being a speck in his memory and a nice little prayer to be remembered

its good that she can change her mind halfway through it

im now picturing him taking her to her own gravestone bleakly

yeah its best to think like Martha, than to just admit that hes a cruel em... person whos parents never married I'm sure he remembers all of them, but chooses not to mention any of them because it hurts too much


yeah she's just like me, I do the same thing, take a whole day to write on entry I hope they get the doctor to write something in it, you know, maybe she'd forget to sign off one day and he'd write a entry saying "get off the internet Martha! there are daleks running after us and all you can do is talk about dalek memorials? typical woman" (I bet they will when she goes, "I never knew i had the internet on the tardis I though my tardis hated myspace, anyway, Marthas dead, I'm sad the end, wait she has over 3000 friends? how did that happen? ?" )

and she'll have a voice over bit which would be very rosesque saying "this is the story of how I died" and The Doctor would mess with her mind saying "your real name is Sam williams, Martha, you were in a coach crash where your Reggie Yates died ", I can see him taking her to her own gravestone though he's very dark and cruel this series I could see him having a emo "you'll die " moment, with her being sarcastic and saying "O rly doctor? I'm going to die? and I thought humans lived forever *Eye rolls* nice to see someone cleans up my grave, can we go for ice cream now?" "I clean your grave " "yeah yeah whatever whatever, at least wait till I'm gone before you mourne, anyway I like mint choc chip "


The kids who review the DW episodes over at the DW sites have given "Blink" a fear factor rating of 5.5 (and 5 is the highest ) : www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/episodes/2007/310.shtml (click on fear factor, you might get spoiled, just look at the kids faces like I did thats scary! )

apparently its the most scary episode of new who (and probably the old one too lets face it the monsters weren't that terrifying ) its a steven moffat episode so it must be good!

i like to think of him walking around the previous sidekick's graves in bleak silence like at the end of that ep

speed it up he should definitely sabotage an entry
i really want the grave visit to happen now Marthas one and a montage of otehr grave visits

how do these so called kids know how good the ep is

It looks a bit like shes taunting him about his homelessness while the docs being a bit more disapointed in the bloke for ending up that way

i bet she was panic stricken by it all though

yeah he should that would be fun!

They should dedicate a whole episode to the gravestones "This is for the gravestones of the world *music starts*" just have him walking around gravestones and after he's done all of his companions he could go around random gravestones saying " I knew him " "Edgar Allan Poe ? he stole my yoyo!" etc it would be fun... in a sick way but it would be a good episode

Their parents must be part of the crew or something like that they see all the episodes before we do I wish they'd come online and spoil us all and everyone would complain about them "oh those Erikkson kids are annoying!" "I prefer the Nokia kids!"

It looks like hes smirking a little too, maybe they're both evil in the episode that would be entertaining, a bit like how smallville is awesome when Clark is evil, but blah when hes not (joking *Cough*)

it would be my most rewatched ep for sure hed tell such brilliant lies about all the stars he knew and historic moments he was at

i bet their parents are publicists for the show and dont feed their kids if thy give less than 100% positive reviews

ooh a double bodyswap ep the ones where Clark bodyswaps are his finest moments

you can tell she was a crying mess for an entire week after the story broke

Oh Shipton oh the girl at the start oh Sally, oh Ben's internet friends, it was full of Ohs! but good ohs! fantastic!

and that advert for "Jekyll" APPARENTLY MOFFAT WROTE THAT TOO and it has Michelle Ryan,wayheeey.

and the doctor and martha scenes? *Dies* LIZARDS BOWS AND ARROWS! NICE LONG HAIR! and also HAHA SHE'S BEEN SUPPORTING HIM? yesss sisters are doing it for themselves (and the men in their life) also did she say they've been to the moon 4 times damn that must be way into the future (har har take that the sun she'll stay and snark forever!) I wonder how long they were in 1969 for (probably for that whole year ), oh this episode was fantastic.

also the doctor's been married before! waayheeey!

i kept trying to be cynical but liked the main girl and the dvd stoner
the jibe about itv was great too
i got the impression these characters are going to end up as assistants or torch woooders

The ITV bit was fantastic Oh Ben and Sally would be fantastic in the tardis, and they knew well sort of about the previous companion thing too so they wouldn't be all "omgz doctaz you are a I polygamist? I thought you only had eyes for the 2 of us " I would have loved to see Cath/Sally in the tardis too, mainly because it would drive the rabid fangirls mad

and you did end up caring about Sally (and maybe Ben poor shipton ) in the end, It did seem very maybe they'll be in a spin off/future companionsey.

bet there will be a lot of fic out there now 1969 fic and fighting lizard fic (didn't they say it was a supermarket? genius ) - if someone doesn't write Martha and The Doctor running into Gene fic I will cry!

Poor police man guy I was so shipping Sally/Him based on that scene, but Ben/Sally was great too Sally/Martha/doctor would be fantastc too, random, but it would oh shiz Sally/Jack/Martha (with a bit o'rose on the side) stuff the doctor!

I loved the line from Martha about noding when he takes a breath haha, I wonder if Shipton hanged around with them? he became a publisher? ohh why? we could have had a fantastic life on mars crossover (in fic probably ) if he did stay a copper.
